How to Turn a Facebook Ad Into New Customers

When you’re trying to advertise to prospective customers on Facebook, it’s critical that you choose the most targeted audience you can instead of just advertising to a general audience. That makes an enormous difference in your results.

Let’s say for example that you’re a health coach and you want to get new customers. If you do a regular ad and target people who are interested in health and wellness living in the United States, Canada, and Western Europe, you might capture 50 million people.

But chances are your ad is not going to get in front of people who are ready to buy your service right now.

However, if you can upload the list of people who have visited your website and given you their email address, you have a better chance of converting them through a Facebook ad.

If you have partners or joint venture partners with large email lists, you can upload a custom audience from them or your own email list in order to target people on Facebook.

Those people already know your name so it’s most effective to advertise to them for that free one-on-one consultation or to hire you for your health and wellness services.

So how do you create this custom audience? I’ll show you in six easy steps…

Uploading Your Custom Audience

STEP ONE: The Ads Manager Page

Go to your Facebook page and click on the “Ads Manager” on the left side of the page.

STEP TWO: Audiences

Scroll down to “Audiences” on the left side of the page. This is where you can upload a custom audience – it’s simple!

STEP THREE: File Type

On this page click “Create Audience.” I am assuming that you have already downloaded an email list and have a file that is on your computer.

In order to upload a custom audience to Facebook, you have to have your email list in an Excel spreadsheet. It must be a .csv file or a .txt file in order to upload to Facebook (I’ll explain this more in Step FIVE).

STEP FOUR: File Origin

It will ask you to choose the type of audience, such as “MailChimp” or a “Data File”. Choose “Data File”.

STEP FIVE: Name the File

Next, give the upload a name (e.g. Bret’s Customers). Select “Data Type”. Again, if it’s “Emails”, your file needs to be a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet which is a .csv file (Comma-Separated Values).

If you have Facebook User Id’s, click that option. These are the ones that need to be a .txt file (a plain text file in Apple’s TextEdit Program).

STEP SIX: Upload

Click “open” and then click “Create an Audience.” In my case, I have 1,914 records and it accepted 100% of the entries. You will usually only see a 100% rate when uploading Facebook User Id’s. When you use a .csv spreadsheet, the acceptance rate is usually about half.
